What We’re Studying:

For the next three weeks, we're diving into the wonderful world of author Laura Numeroff! Her books, often called "circular stories," are fantastic for teaching children about cause and effect (one thing leads to another) and story sequencing. Literacy activities will include charting predictions about what might happen next in the stories and practicing sequencing the events using story cards. Our dramatic play area will be transformed into a classroom bakery where children develop essential skills through dramatic play, including fine motor control, early math (counting, money exchange, sorting), and literacy (reading menus & recipes, writing orders). It fosters social skills like turn-taking, cooperation, and role-playing, while boosting creativity, imaginative thinking, and emotional regulation.

 

At-Home Connection:

Cooking with children helps with math skills (measuring, counting), fine motor development, and following directions. Bake some cookies together as a family activity. You can let your child help with simple tasks like mixing dry ingredients or using cookie cutters.

 

Phonics:

Kinder Small Group: We’ve just wrapped up our first round of alphabet lessons! Children have made incredible progress. We will be reviewing letters 2 at a time and working on letter name and sound recall. Additional small groups will be established for students needed extra time to master letter names and sounds.

3 /4's Small Group: Continuing with established routine letter introduction, songs, and activities that boost their stamina for student success!

 

Math:

We just began our unit on 3D/solid shapes: cube, sphere, cylindar and cone! To extend this learning, I encourage you to go on a hunt for these shapes with your child in your home, notice them at the grocery store and in nature!
